Although it is called Pulau Perhentian (Stopping Island), this beautiful island is a whole destination on its own! Located on the north-eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Pulau Perhentian is approximately 30 mins by boat from Kuala Besut, Terengganu. It is also one of the most beautiful beaches in Malaysia. 

Pulau Perhentian is the kind of place where you leave all your worries behind and walk barefoot on the soft white sands and listen to waves crashing just outside your room. You could be spending a few days or even a week here at Pulau Perhentian and still be captivated by its exquisitely clear blue waters. It is to no surprise too that Pulau Perhentian boasts some amazing diving spots all over its islands. Underneath its already gorgeous azure blue waters, lies an even more stunning coral and marine life. 

And although the beach and the sea is the main highlight for Pulau Perhentian, you can also fill your days with adventure, be it exploring the jungle, diving a sunken wreck or kayaking between secluded coves, or let the hours slip away in a state of blissful relaxation doing nothing more than drifting between powdery white sand and the calm crystal waters that wrap around the islands.

Pulau Perhentian comprises of two major islands. Perhentian Kecil (‘Small’), popular with the younger backpacker crowd, and Besar (‘Large’). Perhentian Besar has slightly higher standards of accommodation, a slightly more packaged-group ambience, and attracts families. Both are traffic-free and share a laid-back islander vibe. Speedboats can take you out to five smaller islands for day trips. With relatively shallow and calm waters, great visibility and largely gentle currents, the Perhentian islands are an ideal place to snorkel or learn to dive.
