If you're looking for a comfortable, non-hassle city destination with some added tranquillity on the side, Kota Kinabalu (The City of Kinabalu) is definitely the place for you. Kota Kinabalu is the capital of the state of Sabah which is located on the island of Borneo. For many years now, this city is churning out impressive tourist numbers due to its proximity to tropical islands, thick green rainforests and Mount Kinabalu (which is 50km away from the city itself). Locally known as KK, you can find Kota Kinabalu on the west coast of Sabah. KK is the largest city in the state in Sabah and is the main gateway into the island of Borneo (more on that later).

During the day you can hop on a river water cruise through Klias Wetlands. Only an hour and a half outside Kota Kinabalu, you can have a boat ride that cuts through the Klias Wetland Mangrove Forest Reserve. During this boat ride, you can view various range of wildlife that come to the river to take a dip and drink. One of the main highlights of the wildlife would include rare proboscis monkeys that inhabit the rivers and creeks of the wetlands. The density of proboscis monkeys at Klias are high so you will see numerous groups during your boat cruise.

From wetlands to blue waters, island hopping is also a popular activity. Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park is definitely a must when you visit Kota Kinabalu. is located off the coast of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah (Borneo). It is made up of five stunning islands; Gaya, Manukan, Sapi, Sulug and Mamutik. As the islands are only a short boat ride away from Kota Kinabalu it is a popular for those looking for a day trip to view Kota Kinabalu's azure blue waters. There are a few resorts within the marine park, so people can also stay there for a few days.

Once you're in Kota Kinabalu (KK) you will soon the beauty of this city right off the bat. The locals are incredibly friendly, watching the sunset from the harbour is incredible, and even the street food to high-end restaurants is a delight. Adding on some new luxurious shopping malls and markets full of fresh seafood and produce, Kota Kinabalu is an increasingly modern city but with its tranquillity still remaining intact with its old-world charm and history are very much alive.
